Hi, I’m Theo,

a Greek professor of computational art living in China with my family. My 3.5-year-old twins speak Chinese as their first language, so I created these cards to help them learn the Greek alphabet in a way that felt playful and intuitive.

Each letter is transformed into an object that begins with that letter, but importantly the shape of the object forms that letter too! σ isn't just "σ for σαλιγκάρι" (snail) — the letter is the shell of the snail. φ is a coiled φίδι (snake). ν forms a νυχτερίδα (bat). The shape becomes the memory.

Instead of memorising abstract symbols, children associate each letter with a familiar image. When my children saw the letter, they remembered the object; when they saw the object, they recognised the letter. They learned the Greek alphabet this way surprisingly quickly, and had fun doing so.

The idea is inspired by a learning technique called embedded picture mnemonics, adapted here specifically for Greek.

I originally made these for my own children, but after sharing them online, many other parents asked if they could get a set too.

US customers are ordering here already. Non-USA orders shipping by end of June. Join the waitlist below.
